As an intern/millennial/creative, you are expected to do a LOT in one day (don’t know how to balance it all? Check out my tips on how to balance your life)! Sometimes you need the extra help, especially if you’re a creative. That’s where this handy dandy listicle comes in; a collection of my top things/apps/people/places that helps the inspiration flow.
Surviving my day-to-day creative life:
1. A good coffee or tea
This is step number one of my day. Whether I need the caffeine or not, a nice warm beverage helps the creative juices flow, especially if it’s first thing in the morning.
2. An organizational system
Most people think a creative’s life is like:
But it’s not. You actually need a pretty solid organizational system in order to turn your creative chaos into a masterpiece. So set up your calendar app, time tracker and planner ASAP and you’ll be ready to roll (bonus points if you colour code your planner!)
Inspiration is key, especially on those days when you feel like you’ve hit a wall and you can’t even fathom creating another mockup… I look to Pinterest.
Not only can you find some super cute DIY’s on Pinterest, but a lot of designers post their work or inspiration boards on this site.
4. Apps on apps on apps
I swear I could not live without apps. Be it the good ol’ Adobe CS, or photo editing tools, apps can help turn your vision into a real life masterpiece.
Don’t know what apps work for you? Take each one on a test-drive and utilize those free trials! Everyone is different. What works for me may not work for you; we each need our own unique toolbox.
5. A good book
After a long day in front of the computer, it’s important to get your eyes off that screen and onto something else. No, I do not mean Netflix, I mean something that can not only stimulate your brain, but your creative juices! Try reading magazines, books, and or anything you can get your hands on. Not only does this serve as a great break, but some of my best eureka moments came from reading.
There you have it. Those are a few ways I draw inspiration from and survive my intern-life. If you want to hear more of my #millenialmoments, make sure you read the whole life of intern series. Not only will you learn what it’s like being 20, living in a city, working at a super cool agency, but you get to see some gems like this:
