DANIELLE FRASER

Role @ Splash Effect:

Web & Graphic Designer

Where are you from?

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts which I take pride in simply because I get to cheer for some great sports teams. I was raised in Mississauga, Ontario where I stayed until moving to Hamilton, Ontario to study Political Science at McMaster for four years.

Where can we find you online?

I was lucky enough to register my own name for my personal portfolio website, daniellefraser.com. Also, when I worked as a designer for a business magazine, the issues were published digitally online which can be found at https://issuu.com/quarterlyprofit, I personally worked on the issues in volume 3.

If you had to choose one social network, what would it be?

Snapchat. I appreciate the idea of sharing candid glimpses of my life.

What are you most looking forward to learning at Splash Effect?

I like learning to work under pressure to meet client deadlines – that’s a lot of fun to challenge and push yourself.

Favourite font?

I really appreciate all the incredible and eye catching fonts out there, but I think the famously simple Roboto has my heart for now.

If we looked at your most recently played songs on Spotify/Apple Music, what would we see?

Typically, my playlists are comprised of songs from the chill pop genre, right now I have some favourites by Johnathan Roy and Arizona. And currently anything from the La La Land Soundtrack.

You’re stuck on a desert island – what 3 books would you bring with you?

I know I’d want to have Way More Than Luck, which is a compilation of some of the best commencement speeches ever delivered. I currently use it for a boost of motivation on those gloomy days. Also probablyThe Mezzanine by Nicholson Baker. As a third option, maybe Elon Musk’s biography by Ashlee Vance because I’ve been meaning to read that.

What one movie or tv show must anyone who wants to be your friend watch so they can understand you better?

I watch a lot of embarrassing television, so I’ll go with a movie. Stand by Me.

Favourite marine animal? (It doesn’t have to be a whale…)

Shrimp, because it’s delicious.

Have a side hustle? Tell us about it:

Right now my side hustle is my Digital Media Master’s program. I only have one class this semester, but I’m also working towards completely a dissertation. I’m currently trying to create a mobile application that would be able to improve wheelchair accessibility at airports, specifically Pearson.

What web/graphic design or social media trend do you think will make waves in the next year?

The 90’s are really influencing fashion trends today, which I believe is also transitioning over to design. I’ve seen colour transitioning, geometric shapes, and a subtle take on shadowing. I also think Cinemagraphs are so cool, and I hope to see more of those.

Most used GIF?

I don’t use GIFs, but my friend Brandon sends me the best ones. Anything in his GIF library.

What does “make a splash” mean to you?

There’s a lot of creative and design agencies in Toronto, but I think to become truly successful an agency must focus on creating design that improves the client’s business. To me, make a splash means delivering intelligent design and strategy that develops a client’s scope.

Eden Hagos

Role @ Splash Effect

Community Manager

Where are you from?

I’m from Windsor, ON

Where can we find you online?

You can find me online writing about food on www.blackfoodie.co

If you had to choose one social network, what would it be and why?

I would definitely choose Instagram. I love how simple it is to tell a story through photos and how it makes connecting with like minded people easy!

What are you most looking forward to learning at Splash Effect?

I’m most looking forward to learning. I think this is a group of very talented young motivated people and each bring a unique skill set to the agency.

Favourite font?

Hmm… my favourite font is permanent marker – strange, I know but I love it!

If we looked at your most recently played songs on Spotify/Apple Music, what would we see?

You would see an interesting mix of neo soul and hip hop, everything from India Arie to Chance the Rapper.

You’re stuck on a desert island – what 3 books would you bring with you?

First, I would bring some sort of cookbook on how to forage foods and create meals on an island lol. The next two books would be Breath, Eyes Memory by Etwidge Danticat and Panther Baby by Jamal Joseph.

What one movie or tv show must anyone who wants to be your friend watch so they can understand you better?

A Different World, a 80’s/ 90’s sitcom that I love!

Favourite marine animal? (It doesn’t have to be a whale…)

I’ll still choose a whale.

Have a side hustle? Tell us about it.

I do- I run a site for food enthusiasts, host events and help small food businesses connect to social media advice and new customers.

What web/graphic design or social media trend do you think will make waves in the next year?

I think people are going to move towards Instagram Storie more and that it will soon outshine Snapchat. I also believe more users will begin to schedule in Facebook Live/Instagram Live and replace edited content for more interactive live engagement .

Most used GIF?

I don’t use gifs often but when I do – it’s usually someone sipping tea.

What does “make a splash” mean to you?

Making a splash means innovation and fearlessness to me. It’s being ready to look at a problem from a different perspective and make a splash with your solution.
